Proactive cleanser
The first step in the Proactive skincare system is the cleanser. This is an oil-free formula. Skin that is oily or prone to acne needs an oil-free product. It contains small beads that will exfoliate skin. Exfoliation can be beneficial for acne because it removes dead skin cells. The cleanser also contains prescription-grade benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is a very common ingredient in acne treatment products. You can find this ingredient in both over-the-counter acne medications and prescription strength acne products. It is designed to kill bacteria that promotes blemishes.

Proactive toner
The second step involves use of a toner. The Proactive toner is alcohol-free, which can be helpful for skin that is sensitive to alcohol. The toner is designed to freshen the skin.
